治具（じぐ）とはある特定のものを加工する際に作業位置をガイドする役割として作られる道具。例えばある材料の同じ位置に同じサイズの穴を開けたい場合に、治具を使うと迅速かつ正確に穴を開けることができる。市販されている場合もあるが、つくり手がそれぞれで専用に作ることが多い。この治具もあるプロジェクトのために作られた治具である。プロジェクトが終われば役目を終えることがほとんどである。
この治具はある展示会の什器を作る際に作られ、展示会が終わると同時にその役目を終えた。その治具に立礼棚の役割を与えた。単一の具体的な役割から抽象性の高い役割を担う。
もともとあった有用性が消失し空きになり、そこへ別の有用性を見立てた実験的な作品。
A jig is a tool designed to guide the working position when processing a particular item. For example, if you want to drill holes of the same size in the same position in a certain material, a jig can be used to drill holes quickly and accurately. Some jigs are available on the market, but many are made by individual makers for their own exclusive use. This jig was also made for a particular project. In most cases, the role of the jig will end when the project is over.
This jig was made to make fixtures for an exhibition, and finished its role as soon as the exhibition was over. The jig was given the role of a standing shelf. It assumed a highly abstract role from its single, concrete role.
This is an experimental work in which the original usefulness has disappeared and become vacant, and another usefulness has been found in its place.
